URBAN GLASGOW

URBAN GLASGOW

‘Urban Glasgow’ documents a few of Glasgow's places of interest. Of interest to us, we should add. Buildings and sites, in use and abandoned, often derelict and at risk. All shots taken by Gie it Laldy from 2011 onwards.

1. Drumchapel Water Tower.

The former Drumchapel Water Tower. Now redundant, it is one a series of striking, abandoned water towers dotted around the suburbs of Glasgow. Constructed in the 50’s, the towers supplied Glasgow with water from Loch Kathrine. Image shot June 2015.

3. Anniesland Court

24-storey A listed, J Holmes & Partners, 1968. It is the tallest listed building in Scotland, and is similar to Ernő Goldfinger's Trellick Tower in London. I’m particularly fond of the coral mosaic application which casts a lovely pink hew in the stairwell. Image shot January 2018.

4. Gorbals

Our Gallus neon required a little tlc, which meant a scoot over the river for a gander roon the Gorbals while we waited. Image shot November 2017.

5. Western Infirmary

The demolition of one of Glasgows oldest hospitals, The Western Infirmary in the West End. Image shot November 2017.
